At a distance of 38 kilometers from the city of Rhodes, on the northwestern slope of Mount Prophet Elias, is the village of Salakos. One of the oldest villages of the island dating back to 100 BC according to archaeological excavations. A village full of natural springs and lush vegetation. A quiet settlement that maintains many customs and traditions. The valley located near the famous Nymphi Spring is an important habitat for the butterfly Panaxia Quadripunctaria which is also found in Butterfly Valley. Walking through the narrow streets of the village you will see several traditional houses with courtyards full of colorful flowers. On one of these streets you will find the village Church, built in the 14th century AD, and dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Salakos is one of the ideal destinations for hiking enthusiasts with trails leading to Mount Prophet Elias, for families with small children due to the excellent climate as Salakos is one of the places with the best climate in Greece, but also for those looking for alternative holidays on the island of Rhodes.
