Apolakkia Village

Apolakkia village in Greek Απολακκιά is a rural village located about 77km southwest of the city of Rhodes. Famous for its excellent watermelon, every year, usually in July, a watermelon festival is organized in the small square of the village. Greek music, Greek dancing, food and drink and free watermelon of course. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area.
In the central square there is a good selection of traditional coffee shops and tavernas.
Nearby you may visit the artificial lake of Apolakkia. Due to the need to supply water to Rhodes and the surrounding small islands of the Dodecanese, the construction of the dam led to the formation of an impressive lake, which nowadays its a way station for migratory birds.
