Built in the Byzantine cross-domed style, the chapel sits within a small courtyard. Its floor is paved with an island pebble mosaic known as “chohlaki”, typical of the Dodecanese islands.
The interior is adorned with remarkable frescoes from various periods — the 10th, 11th, and 17th centuries — with the most impressive depicting Saint George and the Archangel Michael. According to a stone inscription found inside, materials from an older 2nd-century BC temple were used in its construction.
To ensure its preservation, the Saint George Chostos chapel is not open to the public but you can still take beautiful pictures in its courtyard.
