Built at the southeastern side of Mount Prophetes Elias and cradled amid pine trees, cypress trees and olive groves, the village of Apollona is located at a distance of 53kim from the city of Rhodes. It is presumed that it derived its name from the temple of god Apollo that once was in the area. Apollona is famous for the excellent quality of olive oil it produces, as its inhabitants are mainly occupied with olive growing. It is also a popular destination for nature lovers. There are many hiking trails with small babbling brooks and creeks and rare kinds of flora and fauna which you can explore. Don’t miss the folk museum, at whose yard there are remains of a temple of times of old as well as the village church with its amazing icons and a wonderful pebbled churchyard. Before you leave, make sure you have enjoyed the traditional cuisine and shop local traditional products.
