Eleousa village is a quaint, small settlement located 40 km from Rhodes Town, in one of the island’s most densely wooded regions.

Nestled at the foot of Mount Prophet Ilias, Eleousa is set amidst untouched pine forests and natural water sources, offering a peaceful retreat.

At a small distance, you will encounter the old village of Eleousa, built by the Italians in 1935. Its initial name was Campochiaro and was inhabited from 1936 to 1947. Following the departure of the Italians it was deserted and the village school was turned into a sanatorium for tuberculosis until 1970. There, you can see the deserted imposing buildings with the arcades and the small arched balconies, as well as the Church of Agios Charalambos, now a Greek Orthodox church.

A few meters from the main square, in an artificial circular lake where the waters of the fount Koskinisti are gathered, swims the unique little fish named Gizania that are a species under threat and that can be found only in Rhodes. Nearby, don’t miss visiting the impressive medieval chapel of Agios Nikolaos Fountoukli, which dates back to 1497.
