Kattavia is located in the southernmost part of the island, 84 kilometers away from the city of Rhodes. One of the oldest villages on the island, as excavations carried out in close proximity to the current settlement found Mycenaean and Hellenistic tombs. A small traditional settlement with colorful houses and paved alleys. A walk in the square and the narrow streets of the village will give you the sense of simple everyday life at a quiet pace. It is worth visiting the village Church built in 1850 and dedicated to Agia Paraskevi with its impressive bell tower and beautiful cobbled courtyard. Also, among the most notable religious monuments is the Church of Panagia Katholiki, from the 10th century and frescoes from the 17th century AD which is located in the village cemetery, as well as the Catholic Church of Agios Markos which is located 2 kilometers outside the village and was built during the Italian occupation. On the hill above the Church of Agios Markos there are few ruins of the “Paleokastro”, built during the Byzantine period.
The area around the village of Kattavia is protected by the European Network “Natura 2000” as it is part of international importance for birds of central Rhodes. The village of Kattavia is preferred for their accommodation mainly by lovers of water sports, due to the fact that nearby is Prasonisi, a popular destination for windsurfers as the weather conditions prevailing in the area are ideal for this sport.
Also the Kattavia is famous for the excellent quality beans it produces.
