The village of Koskinou is located at a distance of only 7km from the city of Rhodes, on a hilltop. It is considered as one of the oldest villages since its foundation dates back to the middle ages. It is a colorful traditional settlement, which still preserves the main manners and customs of the island. The old traditional part of the settlement is not clearly visible at first glance -modern constructions are the first thing that catches the visitors’ eye- so nothing prepares the visitors for what you are about to see.
Once you walk further, towards the Church and the central square, you get lost in the narrow cobbled streets that resemble a labyrinth and you become enchanted by the beautiful traditional houses with the colorful courtyards, decorated with all kinds of flowers looking like a painting. The architecturally special entrances, with the carved doors and the magnificent mosaic floors remain the main feature of the houses in Koskinou.
The Traditional House is also worth visiting, in order to admire samples of the local ceramic art and hand-woven textiles. The archaeological site of the medieval fortress is a place of particular interest, and so are the chapels of Saint Irene, Saint Marina, Saint Lucas and Prophete Elias chapel with the stunning view.
