The Mineralogy and Paleontology Museum Stamatiadis is situated in Ialyssos, just 8 kilometers from Rhodes Town. The museum spans 300 square meters.
It features exhibits organized in showcases that highlight a variety of minerals and fossils from Greece and around the world. Central showcases display stunning specimens like Azurite, Malachite, Calcite, and Galena, with many minerals sourced from Greece’s mineral-rich regions, such as Lavrion.
Visitors can also find minerals from the island of Milos, including Sulfur, Obsidian, and Perlite, as well as notable minerals from Naxos and Serifos. Sifnos is represented by minerals like Prassin, Barite, and Garnet, while Naxos showcases Amaril and Margarite among others. The museum proudly features minerals typical of Rhodes, such as Artinite and Hydromagnesite.
In addition to minerals, the Mineralogy and Paleontology Museum Stamatiadis boasts a diverse collection of fossilized marine organisms from the Neogene Pliocene Epoch, including fossilized tree trunks. A separate section is dedicated to ancient fossils, showcasing Radiolites and Ammonites from the Triassic Epoch, as well as fossilized fish from Brazil’s Cretaceous Epoch. Noteworthy exhibits include Trilobites from Morocco and a crocodile skull from the Miocene Period, highlighting the museum’s extensive paleontological collection.
