Description

The 8th European Polyphony Festival presents three concerts on Friday 2, Saturday 3 and Monday 5 October 2026, bringing music and art to three historic venues across Rhodes’ New and Old Town.

Friday, 2 October 2026, at 9:00 PM

Palace of the Grand Master
Concert “Katharsis”

The programme explores the relationship between movement and stillness through contemporary music, focusing on the human voice as a bridge between cultures and historical periods. Its centrepiece is Katharsis (2023–2024) by Greek composer Savvas Karantzias, a nine-movement contemporary Mass for choir, percussion and solo violin, dedicated to Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis. Complementing it is Christopher Gibert’s Hymnus, inspired by a 13th-century Occitan manuscript and New Testament texts, creating a contemplative musical journey in search of light.

Admission is free, but advance reservation is required.

Saturday, 3 October 2026, at 8:30 PM

Church of the Annunciation
Concert “À la française”

A musical journey between poetry and spirituality, exploring the richness and elegance of French vocal music. From Saint-Saëns to Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc and Duruflé, the programme brings together generations of composers, from the poetry of Charles d’Orléans to sacred works inspired by prayer, nature and contemplation. A celebration of the French musical tradition, where voices become poetry, landscape, prayer and light.

Admission is free, but advance reservation is required.

Monday, 5 October 2026 | 6:00 PM

Medieval Moat Theater
Concert “Children’s Day”

Following the successful meeting between the children’s choirs of Rhodes and the Edvard Grieg Girls’ Choir from Norway, the Festival dedicates a significant part of its programme to children through “Children’s Day”, supporting the continued development of Rhodes’ children’s choirs and their educators. This year, the Festival welcomes distinguished teacher, educator and musician Nikos Kypourgos, offering children from the participating choirs and the Rhodes Music School a unique opportunity to express, learn and create through music.

Admission is free.
