Afandou Beach

Afandou Beach, or Afantou, located on the east coast of Rhodes, just 19 km from Rhodes Town and 2 km from the traditional village of Afandou, is one of the island’s longest and most beloved beaches among locals.

Its wide shoreline of fine pebbles and crystal-clear, calm waters makes it an ideal destination for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying a relaxing day by the sea. 

Thanks to its impressive length, the beach rarely feels crowded, even during the peak summer season, allowing visitors to find a peaceful spot to unwind. While parts of the beach are organised with sunbeds and umbrellas, there is still plenty of open space for those who prefer a quieter setting.

A selection of tavernas and beach canteens can be found along the coast, although bringing water is recommended, especially on hot days.

During the summer months, Afandou Beach comes alive in the evenings as local families and friends gather to enjoy the cooler air, with the tradition of lighting small bonfires creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. 

The beach is easily accessible by car and provides ample parking nearby, making it a convenient choice for a full day by the sea. Families with young children should note that, although the sea is usually calm, the seabed shelves quite quickly, so children should always be supervised while swimming.
