Description

The picturesque Chapel of Panagia Perigialeni lies above Kremasti Beach, just 12 km from Rhodes Town and only 1 km from the center of Kremasti, offering a peaceful stop by the sea.

Dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (Genesio tis Theotokou), the chapel is closely connected to its seaside setting. Its name, “Perigialeni”, refers to something located near the sea, making it a fitting name for this small place of worship overlooking the coast.

Panagia Perigialeni Chapel has a welcoming courtyard shaded by pine trees, offering a cool and quiet place for visitors to pause. On the left side of the courtyard, a beautiful mosaic of Panagia stands on a marble column.

The interior is simple and calm, with no wall paintings and only a few portable icons. One of its most striking features is the large icon of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus Christ, displayed in an impressively carved wooden shrine on the right-hand wall. Beside it is another carved shrine housing the icon of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

The wooden iconostasis is decorated with icons of the Virgin Mary and Christ, as well as Archangel Michael and Saint John the Baptist. In the sanctuary, a large portable icon of the Virgin Mary completes the decoration.
