Istrios, a beautiful small picturesque village located at the south part of the island, about 80 kilometers away from the city of Rhodes. It is considered that it took its name from the Ancient Istro.
A quiet settlement with few and hospitable inhabitants, who maintain the traditions of the village to this day. In the village square you will find the Church of Agios Merkurios, with a beautiful wood-carved iconostasis and pebbled floor. Also, towards the end of the village there is the chapel of Agios Merkurios, built in the 17th century AD. over the remains of a Byzantine monastery.
The natural beauty of this place makes it one of the most popular destinations for nature lovers, especially for those who like hiking and mountain biking. The magnificent forest of Istrios has a rich flora and fauna, is protected by the European Natura 2000 Network and is home to the Dama Dama or “Platoni of Rhodes” deer.
