A peaceful settlement with a small population, Istrios village is known for the warm hospitality of its residents, who continue to preserve the village’s traditions to this day.
At the entrance of the village, you will find the chapel of Agios Athanasios, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. In the village square, don’t miss the Church of Agios Merkourios, renowned for its beautifully wood-carved iconostasis and traditional pebbled floor. Towards the end of the village stands another chapel dedicated to Agios Merkourios, built in the 17th century AD on the remains of a Byzantine monastery.
The magnificent forest surrounding Istrios boasts rich flora and fauna and is protected under the European Natura 2000 Network. It is an important habitat for the Dama dama deer, also known as the Platoni of Rhodes.
The natural beauty of this place makes it one of the most popular destinations in Rhodes for nature lovers, especially for those who enjoy hiking and mountain biking.
