Built in 1588 by Recep Pasha, it was the second most significant mosque on Rhodes after the Suleiman Mosque. Its interior decorations are said to be even more exquisite than those of the Ibrahim Pasha Mosque. The mosque is accompanied by the Recep Pasha Mausoleum, located nearby, adding to the historical significance of the site.
Just before entering the courtyard, you can admire a beautiful fountain covered by a dome supported by eight columns. The building itself is distinguished by its cylindrical minaret and elegant dome, while the unique architectural decoration above the main entrance highlights the mosque’s artistic value.
Over the years, some restoration efforts were attempted, but significant work was only started in 2024, when the Greek Ministry of Culture began a major project to restore key monuments of the Medieval Town, including the Recep Pasha Mosque.
Although the mosque is not yet open to the public, visitors can admire its exterior and relax in the peaceful square, shaded by towering trees—a perfect spot to enjoy the ambiance of the Old Town.
